    BYOB

Stool Pigeon, our weekly special guest monologist show, happens every Saturday at 8pm. Tim Honker – Left Brain vs. Right Brain.  Round 2, FIGHT!

Tim Honker is a Dallas-Austin native comedian and engineer locked in an everlasting, brutal battle between his left and right brain.

From his right brain, Tim performs improv and writes/preforms sketch comedy in Austin and around the country after taking classes from ColdTowne Conservatory.  Tim currently performs improv with Nice AstronautStool PigeonColdTowne Tour Co, and ColdTowne All Stars.  He wrote and performed with the sketch group UpTowne.  Tim also has an autobiographical  solo sketch act that uses his junior high to college experiences to spin embarrassing into comedy.  Tim co-developed and directed Arthur Simone’s (Best Actor – Austin Chronicle, 2009) one-man sketch show Dear Frailty

From his left brain, Tim has worked as a mechanical & systems engineer designing products ranging from home cosmetic equipment to mechanized hospital beds, to phones for old people, to weapon sights, to automatic grenade launchers, to target accuracy test systems for thermonuclear missiles.

Live Show Taping at ColdTowne This Thursday!

In the tradition of late night TV, sitcoms and sports broadcasts, we’re taping an evening of unscripted live comedy for use at a future date. What is that future, you ask? A DVD release? A promotional spot on a popular cable TV network? An Imax 3-D Movie? It’s one or none of those, so come out and be a part of history as a member of our first ever live studio audience.

The show will feature a cross section of our very best improv comedy talent. For real.

Thursday’s Live Taping is joined by The Level 6 Class!

    iPhone II: Electric Boogaloo

One of my favorite things about the comedic process are the dumb arguments you get into. Once in a while, I like to take a step back and think about how silly the whole thing is.

No, it’d be funnier if we say cut off his face, instead of head!

I think Ben Franklin would be funnier than George Washington here.

This scene about a sentient puppet needs some emotional realism.

I spend a lot of time teaching this stuff, trying to make some of these decisions sound rational. As if there has to be some reason why your instinct is telling you that the murderous puppet is taking a tender moment. Since I’ve joined the Cast of iPhone, I’ve tried to avoid these stupid arguments and comedy theory debates and just do the damn thing. We’re working on brand new material for the April debut of our new comedy show. We’d love it if you came out and helped us develop new material. All you have to do is show up and laugh, or don’t.

Stuff we’re working with right now (spoiler alert): Grandparents with guns, junkies with looking for a new lease on life, mayors battling it out, sit coms about sit coms, gumshoes, puppets, and Ben Franklin and Mad Max. Okay, you have no idea what that means, but neither do we. Regardless, there’s tons of brand new stuff going up every week. Until April 2nd, it’s all about our comedy id.

Arthur Simone Teaches Visceral Acting at ColdTowne!

Arthur Simone (voted Best Actor in Austin Chronicle’s 2009 Reader’s Poll) understands performance and how to cut to the core of what characters want. After a career studying Stanislavsky, Strasberg, Meisner, Hagen, Adler, and more improv theorists than you can shake a stick at, he’s emerged with a deep appreciation for visceral, honest, motivation-driven acting. Classes use monologues and scene study to filter characters through a tunnel vision that informs 99.9% of what happens.

A graduate of Oberlin College and a veteran of the Chicago stage with Suspicious Clowns and Moving Dock Theatre, Arthur Simone is a co-founder of Austin’s improv powerhouse ColdTowne Theater, where he teaches sketch, improv, and acting. On the screen, Arthur has appeared in Jigsaw, The Evil One, A&E’s Faith of My Fathers, Big Momma’s House 2, and has been featured on the series Friday Night Lights. Most recently, Arthur won critical acclaim and praise for his original one-man show Dear Frailty. He’s also been a past winner of the O. Henry Pun-Off World, Austin’s regional Air Guitar Championship, and the Alamo Drafthouse’s Air Sex World Championship.

Class Size Limited to 10 (intermediate to advanced experience encouraged)
Sundays 12-3 (tentative) at ColdTowne Theater, 4803B Airport Blvd in Austin
    $225 (1/2 for deposit)

Beneath his seemingly deranged exterior, Arthur is one of the smartest and most dedicated teachers you’ll ever have. His notes are practical and specific and draw on a comprehensive understanding of theater craft and his own extensive experience. But more important, Arthur is as obsessively focused on creating emotional immediacy in your performance as he is in his own. If you’ll give him back even a fraction of the commitment he brings to every class, he’ll make you a better actor.” -John Ratliff

    My NYE Plans

ColdTowne Theater and the United States Art Authority will be hosting an early evening of comedy entertainment, featuring Saturday Night Live’s Rich Talarico, ColdTowne Theater’s smash mega hit awesome hit revue Eye for an iPhone and Frontera Fest favorite Le Sexy. The show starts at 7pm on New Year’s Eve at the USAA (2908 Fruth St.), leaving plenty of time for drinking before and after. Consider this an reasonably priced amuse-bouche for the rest of your evening.

Rich Talarico is a veteran of Chicago’s Second City Theater and Improv Olympic. His show, Dasariski (with Bob Dassie and Craig Cackowski) is the only two time headliner at the Out of Bounds Improv Festival. Rich currently lives in Los Angeles where he was a staff writer (and sometimes bit and background player) on FOX’s MAD TV for Seasons 7, 8 and 9. Recently, Rich wrote for Saturday Night Live.

Eye for an iPhone features a cast of writers/performers made up of some of Austin’s most talented young comedians. The revue is helmed by veteran performer and former Second City director Dave Buckman (the Frank Mills, ColdTowne Conservatory Teaching Staff) and has been playing to sold out audiences since its debut in October.

Le Sexy’s performances have been banned for “severe sexiness” in seven states. Nevertheless, Nadege and Olivier’s French comey-lounge act soldiers on. An evening of cocktails, music, and repartee awaits you in a European-inspired cabaret that will titillate the senses.

The ColdTowne Theater is Austin’s main stage for alternative comedy, with improv, sketch and stand up shows Thursday through Monday, featuring the smartest, brightest, and hardest-working comedians in Central Texas.
